Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 256 was held in New Orleans on November 18, 2020. Sale 256, just completed, resulted in 105 bids, by 23 companies, on 93 tracts, for a total of $135,558,336. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $120,868,274, on approximately 0.5 million acres.  The last fall sale in 2019, Sale 253 resulted in 165 bids, by 27 companies, on 151 tracts, for a total of $174,922,200. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $159,386,761, on approximately 0.8 million acres.

 

The big players, in terms of number of tracts bid on, are:

  • Shell Offshore Inc. - 22 bids
  • Chevron U.S.A. Inc. - 13 bids
  • BP Exploration & Production Inc. - 13 bids
  • EnVen Energy Ventures - 13 bids
  • Repsol E&P USA Inc. - 9 bids

In terms of total amount exposed, we have:

  • Shell Offshore Inc. - $28.5 million
  • Chevron U.S.A. Inc. - $22.5 million
  • Equinor Gulf of Mexico LLC - $22.2 million
  • BP Exploration & Production Inc. - $19.3 million
  • Anadarko US Offshore LLC - $8.7 milion

In terms of total amount of high bids, we have:
