Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 257 was held in New Orleans on November 17, 2021. Sale 257, just completed, resulted in 317 bids, by 33 companies, on 308 tracts, for a total of $198,511,834. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $191,688,984, on approximately 1.7 million acres.  The last fall sale in 2020, Sale 256 resulted in 105 bids, by 23 companies, on 93 tracts, for a total of $135,558,336. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $120,868,274, on approximately 0.5 million acres.

 

The big players, in terms of number of tracts bid on, are:

  • Exxon Mobil Corporation - 94 bids
  • BP Exploration & Production Inc. - 47 bids
  • Chevron U.S.A. Inc. - 35 bids
  • Anadarko US Offshore LLC - 31 bids
  • Shell Offshore Inc. - 20 bids

In terms of total amount exposed, we have:

  • Chevron U.S.A. Inc. - $48.3 million
  • Anadarko US Offshore LLC - $39.6 million
  • BP Exploration & Production Inc. - $29.8 million
  • Shell Offshore Inc. - $17.9 million
  • Exxon Mobil Corporation - $14.9 milion

In terms of total amount of high bids, we have:
