Central Gulf of Mexico Planning Area Lease Sale 241 was held in New Orleans on March 23, 2016. Sale 241, just completed, resulted in 148 bids, by 30 companies, on 128 tracts, for a total of $179,172,819. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $156,385,610, on approximately 0.7 million acres.  The last central sale in 2015, Sale 235 resulted in 195 bids, by 42 companies, on 169 tracts, for a total of $583,201,520. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $538,780,056, on approximately 0.9 million acres.

The big players, in terms of number of tracts bid on, are:

  • Houston Energy, L.P. - 23 bids
  • BP Exploration & Production Inc. - 21 bids
  • LLOG Exploration Offshore, L.L.C. - 21 bids
  • Red Willow Offshore, LLC - 21 bids
  • Ridgewood Energy Corporation - 19 bids

In terms of total amount exposed, we have:
