Central Gulf of Mexico Planning Area Lease Sale 235 was held in New Orleans on March 18, 2015. Sale 235, just completed, resulted in 195 bids, by 42 companies, on 169 tracts, for a total of $583,201,520. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $538,780,056, on approximately 0.9 million acres.  The last central sale in 2014, Sale 231 resulted in 380 bids, by 50 companies, on 326 tracts, for a total of $1,085,372,484. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $1,214,675,536, on approximately 1.7 million acres.

The big players, in terms of number of tracts bid on, are:

  • Statoil Gulf of Mexico LLC - 20 bids
  • Shell Offshore Inc. - 18 bids
  • Chevron U.S.A. Inc. - 13 bids
  • Exxon Mobil Corporation - 13 bids
  • Venari Offshore LLC - 13 bids

In terms of total amount exposed, we have:

  • Chevron U.S.A. Inc. - $79.7 million
  • Red Willow Offshore, LLC - $61.9 million
  • Statoil Gulf of Mexico LLC - $58.0 million
  • Exxon Mobil Corporation - $57.0 million
  • PXP Offshore LLC - $42.9 milion
