Western Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 218 was held in New Orleans on December 14, 2011. Sale 218, just completed, resulted in 241 bids, by 20 companies, on 191 tracts, for a total of $712,725,998. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $337,688,341, on approximately 1.1 million acres.  The last western sale in 2009, Sale 210 resulted in 189 bids, by 27 companies, on 162 tracts, for a total of $145,186,365. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $115,466,321, on approximately 0.9 million acres.

The big players, in terms of number of tracts bid on, are:

  • ConocoPhillips Company - 97 bids
  • Exxon Mobil Corporation - 60 bids
  • BP Exploration & Production Inc. - 15 bids
  • Maersk Oil Gulf of Mexico Two LLC - 13 bids
  • Ecopetrol America Inc. - 11 bids

In terms of total amount exposed, we have:
