Central Gulf of Mexico Planning Area Lease Sale 247 was held in New Orleans on March 22, 2017. Sale 247, just completed, resulted in 189 bids, by 28 companies, on 163 tracts, for a total of $315,303,884. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $274,797,434, on approximately 0.9 million acres.  The last central sale in 2016, Sale 241 resulted in 148 bids, by 30 companies, on 128 tracts, for a total of $179,172,819. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $156,385,610, on approximately 0.7 million acres.

 

The big players, in terms of number of tracts bid on, are:

  • Chevron U.S.A. Inc. - 31 bids
  • Shell Offshore Inc. - 23 bids
  • Exxon Mobil Corporation - 19 bids
  • Anadarko US Offshore LLC - 17 bids
  • Statoil Gulf of Mexico LLC - 15 bids

In terms of total amount exposed, we have:

  • Shell Offshore Inc. - $61.2 million
  • Statoil Gulf of Mexico LLC - $51.3 million
  • Chevron U.S.A. Inc. - $50.0 million
  • Hess Corporation - $45.0 million
  • Exxon Mobil Corporation - $21.9 milion

In terms of total amount of high bids, we have:
