Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 261 was held in New Orleans on December 20, 2023. Sale 261, just completed, resulted in 352 bids, by 26 companies, on 311 tracts, for a total of $441,896,332. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $382,168,507, on approximately 1.7 million acres.  The last sale in 2023, Sale 259 resulted in 353 bids, by 32 companies, on 313 tracts, for a total of $309,798,397. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $263,801,783, on approximately 1.7 million acres.

 

The big players, in terms of number of tracts bid on, are:

  • Shell Offshore Inc. - 73 bids
  • Anadarko US Offshore LLC - 57 bids
  • Repsol E&P USA LLC - 46 bids
  • Chevron U.S.A. Inc. - 32 bids
  • BP Exploration & Production Inc. - 27 bids

In terms of total amount exposed, we have:

  • Hess Corporation - $90.3 million
  • Anadarko US Offshore LLC - $89.4 million
  • Shell Offshore Inc. - $74.6 million
  • Chevron U.S.A. Inc. - $33.6 million
  • Woodside Energy (Deepwater) Inc. - $25.6 milion

In terms of total amount of high bids, we have:
