10/08 Update CD

OWL Has A Bountiful Harvest of New Data!

Don’t be a turkey!  Update ASAP to help your company’s E&P team obtain the freshest, most up-to-date OCS data available. It is important that you run this update outside normal office hours.  The Setup program must be used to update the OWL6 database.  Please run the update: (1) on a computer that has OWL6 and (2) when OWL6 is not in use on your computer network.

Network Supervisors should check for active OWL users via the OWL6   Administrator   program  (Admin6.exe)  in  the  Lexco  directory. Click  on  the Active Users tab for a listing of people  using OWL6.  Look at the date listed to the right of the OWL user’s network ID.  If the date listed is not today’s date, the user exited improperly from OWL and is probably not actively using OWL. If you have problems running the Update, call  Lexco for technical support.  Do not uninstall OWL.

The Setup program will not run if the OWL6 program is in use. Let the Setup program run until the Finished message appears. You will know that the update has been successful if the date 10/30/2008 is seen on the lower right hand side of the Entry Screen and to the right of the Lexco copyright statement.

The 10/2008 OWL Update contains Lease, Well, and Platform data that reflects MMS computerized records in late October, 2008 and includes a large number of Phase 2 lease approvals for OCS Sale 207.   High bid Sale tracts will carry a “New” lease status in OWL until they are awarded or rejected by the MMS. At the end of October, most Lease and Well production data is still only available through 7/2008.

Did you know that the OWL Production Report  No. 7 (Field  Production) shows a summary of a producing field’s OCS Blocks, leases, water depths, producing wells, reservoirs, production dates, perforation range, and cumulative production?  This report is an excellent way to compare the statistics of different fields, such as production, reservoirs, and well counts.
