The Outer Continental Shelf Sale 196 was held in New Orleans on August 17, 2005. 

Sale 196, just completed, resulted in 422 bids, by 56 companies, on 346 tracts, for a total of $335,628,130. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $285,192,865, on approximately 2.0 million acres.

In this same area last year, Sale 192 resulted in 421 bids, by 54 companies, on 351 tracts, for a total of $197.4 million. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $171.4 million, on approximately 2.0 million acres.

The following table reflects preliminary sale data released by the MMS, and shows how Sale 196 compares with previous Western Sales

 

The big players, in terms of number of tracts bid on, are:

·       Shell Ofshore Inc. - 31 bids

·       Chevron U.S.A. Inc. - 27 bids

·        Anadarko Petroleum Corporation - 25 bids

In terms of total amount exposed, we have:

·       LLOG Exploration Offshore, Inc. - $53.6 million

·        Petrobas America Inc. - $39.9 million

·       Anadarko Petroleum Corporation - $29.2 million

·       Eni Petroleum Exploration Co. Inc. - $23.4 million

·        BP Exploration & Production Inc. - $16.0 million

In terms of total amount of high bids, we have:

·        LLOG Exploration Offshore, Inc. - $49.1 million

·        Petrobas America Inc. - $30.1 million

·        Anadarko Petroleum Corporation - $28.0 million

·        Eni Petroleum Exploration Co. Inc. - $23.4 million

·        BP Exploration & Production Inc. - $13.9 million
