The Outer Continental Shelf Sale 196 was held in New Orleans on August 17, 2005. 

Sale 196, just completed, resulted in 422 bids, by 56 companies, on 346 tracts, for a total of $335,628,130. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $285,192,865, on approximately 2.0 million acres.

In this same area last year, Sale 192 resulted in 421 bids, by 54 companies, on 351 tracts, for a total of $197.4 million. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $171.4 million, on approximately 2.0 million acres.
