The Outer Continental Shelf Sale 180 was held in New Orleans on August 22, 2001.  The blocks available in Western Sale 180 were available in conjunction with the blocks available in the second part of Central Sale 178.

Sale 180, just completed, resulted in 386 bids, by 50 companies, on 320 tracts, for a total of $189,971,325. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $165,571,777, on approximately 1.8 million acres.

In this same area last year, Sale 177 resulted in 266 bids, by 53 companies, on 226 tracts, for a total of $167.4 million. The total sum of apparent winning bids was $153.7 million, on approximately 1.25 million acres.


The following table reflects preliminary sale data released by the MMS, and shows how Sale 180 compares with previous Western Sales.

 

The big players, in terms of number of tracts bid on, are:

·        Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas Corporation - 55 bids

·        Spinnaker Exploration Company, L.L.C. - 38 bids

·        Petrobras America, Inc. - 35 bids

·        Amerada Hess Corporation - 32 bids

·        Exxon Mobil Corporation - 29 bids

 

In terms of total amount exposed, we have:

 

·        Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas Corporation - $36.1 million

·        Spinnaker Exploration Company, L.L.C. - $19.2 million

·       Petrobras America, Inc. - $18.7 million

·        Amerada Hess Corporation - $16.97 million

·        Shell Offshore Inc. - $12.1 million

 

In terms of total amount of high bids, we have:

 

·        Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas Corporation - $31.9 million

·        Spinnaker Exploration Company, L.L.C. - $17.4 million

·        Petrobras America, Inc. - $16.9 million

·       Amerada Hess Corporation - $13.5 million

·        Shell Offshore Inc. - $11.2 million
